HEPA air purifiers are certainly not the newest thing, but there are many out there that have no idea what these products are or do. A lot of folks think that purifiers are only good for those who suffer from allergies, and many think they're extremely expensive. In reality, neither is true, and just about everyone could benefit from a HEPA air purifier.
It's a simple fact: odds are, the air in your home is more polluted than the air outside. This is without taking into consideration additional pollutants such as heavy dust environment, pet dander, or cigarette smoke. We're talking about the average home, here, not some slum in the middle of downtown. Our bodies are made to handle some air pollution, but cars are made to handle wrecks, too. That doesn't mean it's good for you.
You Can Never Get Rid Of All Pollutants
But you don't smoke, don't have pets, and a nice, lush lawn keeps the dust outside where it belongs. So you assume, and logically so, that you don't need a HEPA air purifier. This is, unfortunately, not the case. You would be shocked at what all can contaminate your home. Do you, by chance, have furniture? The dyes in fabrics and the chemicals used to treat the wood frames are all susceptible to what's called outgassing. The outgassing of these chemicals pollutes your air. That wonderful green lawn that keeps the dust down? Pollen, natural as it may be, is just as much a pollutant as anything manufactured. HEPA air purifiers are made to take care of just about every contaminant out there.
Don't Care About Pollutants? How About Odors?
Okay, so you don't give a darn about pollutants, have no allergy issues, and never, ever come down with anything. Well, HEPA air purifiers can still help you. Consider those pollutants which don't directly make you sick, but don't put you in a good mood, either. Yes, odors are considered pollutants as well. If you have a HEPA air purifier, your air will even smell better. Be sure to check the specs before buying one, though, to make sure that it does clear odors, as not all of them do.
Just Because You Don't Notice It Doesn't Mean It Isn't There
Don't assume that, because they're not affecting you, there are no pollutants in your indoor air. You'd be shocked at the crazy and scary things indoor pollution has recently been linked to. I'm talking about cancer, as well as respiratory and heart diseases, according to the EPA. You would think that new homes would come with HEPA air purifiers. In a way, they do. Those who use HEPA air filters with their air conditioners get some of the effects of HEPA air purifiers. Unfortunately, since the air conditioner typically feeds from one limited area, the effect is negligible. Installing a HEPA air purifier in all of your living spaces, though, will net you cleaner, healthier air.
